If you attended this year’s 2014 Columbus International Auto Show, you probably noticed something a bit different when you walked in. Sitting in the main aisleway of the show were three old, beat-up vehicles – quite a spectacle when set amongst a sea of shiny, brand new cars, prototypes, and concept vehicles.
This display was a part of The Ugliest Car in Columbus Contest presented by the Central Ohio Honda Dealers. The contest began in early February on the Columbus International Auto Show Facebook page. Photos were uploaded and submitted on a contest application on the page. A round of voting then narrowed down the entries to the finalists, the top three vote-getters. Those finalists brought their cars down to display at the Auto Show, where the last round of voting took place.
Among these three cars were Jacey Deitrich’s 1995 Dodge Neon Sport, Joel Phoenix’s 1992 Honda Accord, and Brad Zigan’s old, rusted Ford F-250. You could hear attendees debating over which car truly was the ugliest, and the opinions varied greatly. The votes were tallied and on Sunday, March 16th in the Honda display, it was announced that Jacey Deitrich did indeed have the Ugliest Car in Columbus. Her old Neon was rusted in places, had doors and a hood with different colors from the white body, and was quickly becoming less and less driveable.
Jacey, 18 years and from Junction City, was ecstatic! Surrounded by her family and friends that came down to support her during the announcement, she couldn’t help but shed some tears of joy. She had worked hard campaigning for this contest and her votes. Jacey has just started a new job and the car will come in handy with the commute she will be taking. She has already picked out her blue sedan and is very thankful to the Columbus International Auto Show and Central Ohio Honda Dealers for this opportunity.
